March #10DCAC Day 2

March 2, 2019

I’m excited to be a part of another 10 Day Choose Art Challenge with Lynne. These prompts help me each month to create and share my creations. They give me some structure and I LOVE to see what others do with the prompts.

The scribbling in the background I borrowed from a class I took in 21 Secrets. Amy Bruce taught a class called Visual Nests and I just love the look she achieved. I’m still working on mine but I did like how this turned out. The backwards writing I transferred over the scribbles using pages from a magazine and a glue stick.  Found an old dictionary page I had used when I was in the throes of a gelli-plate frenzy and then used an image from a magazine for the rock. I haven’t glued down the pieces yet because I would like to sketch my own rock but did not have the time today.

What can you do with Black, White and Red all over?

Looking forward to your creation!

March #10DCAC

It’s time for a new 10 Day Choose Art Challenge!

We start Friday, March 1 – Won’t you join us?

Lynne and I are creating some great prompts.  We will post the full 10 days of prompts on Friday on Instagram and Facebook.  Can’t find it?  Just follow #10dcac on Instagram or follow Lynne and me.

We will also post each day’s prompts on the day of the prompt for those who want to just sit and play each day.

Hoping you choose to join us! It is so much fun to know that others are creating to the same prompt. It’s always inspiring to see what each of you create.

Sharing your creations is fun and we love to see each and every one.

You can share on Instagram with the hashtag (#10dcac) or on Facebook on your page.  If you aren’t comfortable sharing publicly we have a private Facebook group. Just shoot Lynne or I a message and we will add you to the group.

See you Friday!

Day 9 – February Blues

The February Blues – I once scoffed at those who told me about the February Blues. I mean, my birthday is in February how could I get the February Blues! I understand a bit more now. The excitement of the winter holiday with all the wonderful food and family time, the thrill of a BRAND NEW YEAR, and then we are faced with February.

Groundhog Day just doesn’t do much for me. I mean, what does a groundhog know about spring? The cold (at least in the northern hemisphere) and dark (even in Florida we have cloudy, dreary days) days of February seem to stretch out forever.

I googled February Blues and it does indeed exist. I even found a few songs on You Tube titled February Blues. None I had ever heard but I enjoyed one of them. It was a bit colorful but it made me smile. Plus listening to music, especially the blues always cheers me up!

My answer for the February Blues?

I always come back to my art – I can put those blues on a page – I can create a sunshine – I can always find a way back to myself.

Tomorrow is our last prompt for this month! I have enjoyed each and every post you have made. And if you didn’t post? That is okay! I hope you enjoyed the prompts and made some art for yourself! Choose art. That is what this is all about. Choosing yourself each and every day!

We will be back in March! March 1 – 10. We will post on Facebook and Instagram. If you are already a member of the private group it will be there first! And if you want to be a member of the group, just shoot me a message on Facebook.  (I’m still trying to figure out the email process on my blog!)

Thank you for playing along with Lynne and I! See you in March!

Day 7 Symbols, Signs & Such

I spent some time going thru a few of my art journals to see what symbols and signs appear in my pages. It was interesting to see how many of the symbols have stayed with me as I’ve gone thru this artistic journey. Spirals, circles, and birds. Lots of birds.

Lately I’ve gone back to painting, drawing, sketching all types of swirly, spirally things. They are satisfying to paint. Not controlled or neat, just these wild swirls of colors. I often paint over them as the piece progresses. And underneath I know those swirls are there. I’ve been drawn to these types of lines for years. I did this piece a few years ago.

I’ve spent time researching symbols and signs. I love this research! I love how we as humans use these symbols and have used them for thousands of years!

What symbols and signs are you drawn to?
What symbols and signs have meaning to you?

I’d love to hear from you!

Hope you enjoy the prompt for today.

Day 5 – Shadow Play

Shadow Play 4

I collect shadow pictures – going thru my photos I had photo after photo of them.

I’m drawn to watching the sun rise each morning in my home and as the sun hits the windows I watch the shadows. Something about them . . .

Without light there is no shadow to be seen. I love the duality of that.

“We need both light and dark. As any good photographer will tell you, it is the contrast of light and shadows which creates beauty and mystery. It is the interplay of light and darkness and the infinite rainbow of colors and gradations that can be created from the two that give life its richness.”

Divine Mystery

What are you creating today?
